About This Blog

Over the Christmas holiday 2010, my husband announced that he was becoming a caveman. He ordered Art Devaney's book and began extensive online research into our "new" way of eating.

In early January 2011, we switched to an Evo diet. I suffered significant withdrawal symptoms during the first week and actually missed work due to excruciating headaches. I also hated the idea of spending my life eating nothing but grilled meat and salad. I constantly thought of mean things I would write to Art De Vany! I was not convinced that this was the lifestyle choice for me. Meanwhile, CaveHusband was raving about how great he felt. He refused to eat anything I made that was not Evo-acceptable. Something had to give.

I eventually started to feel better, and my energy levels rose. CaveHusband had done more reading and was branching out somewhat from a strict Evo diet. But I was really disappointed in what we were eating. I loved to cook, and I was bored with our repetitive menus.

I had looked at the Paleo/Evo/Cave cookbooks at my local bookstore and was really disappointed - they weren't creative, and they didn't help me think about creating meals. One weekend, I decided to step up to the challenge and pulled out my cookbooks. I created a week's worth of dinner menus, and all week we ate better than ever. Ever since then, I have been trying out new recipes and becoming even more creative in the kitchen.

I started this blog as a way to share my joy of cooking and the revelation of eating in this healthy and satisfying way. I don't claim to adhere to a strict interpretation of Paleo, Evo, etc. Rather, I have found what works for my body and what allows me enough creativity to be interesting.
